Hirschberg... and the first chopper?

While debating what constitutes a bobber on a UK bike forum (again!), I used Irish Rich's superb article in GK #8 as an example. If you haven't read it, it traced the lineage from 40s bob-job to 60s chopper via this – Dick Hirschberg's bike – built in '59, which represents the link between earlier modified stockers and later out-and-out customs.

And Dick's 'tweeny' style is what I always return to for inspiration...

If I had a pound for every bike that's been called a bobber that isn't, I'd be able to buy every last Crocker on the planet.

if I had a pound for every 'real' bobber featured in mags I wouldn't have enough to buy a bogus one!
