It was especially significant to be looking through photos of Faizal Reza's fine '66 Shovel on the day after Born Free 4; it is amazing how far the passion for SoCal's chopper culture has spread. But while anything goes when you're putting a bike on the road in California, in other places riding an old chopper genuinely puts you outside the law and at some risk.

Faizal lives in Malaysia, where building a ground-up custom motorcycle is plain illegal. So riding this Shovel on the street means taking risks and making sacrifices beyond anything we might imagine. Worth thinking about when you're poring over the great photos from BF4.
