It started so well

I got the brake side of the hub worked out fine, and it really didn't take too long. But when I flipped the rim over and started on the star side, the inner row of spokes just didn't line up with the right holes. After looking carefully at my rear wheel, I realised the holes in the rim I was lacing had been drilled in the wrong direction on that side. I checked and re-checked, then emailed the guy off the JJ who'd sold me the rim.

He said 'Yeah, I'm a V-Twin dealer (this is a V-Twin rim) and I quite often have a problem with their products'. Now he tells me...

Anyone need an 18" chrome hose reel?

Regular 18" spokes aren't long enough for those v-twin rims. I has to use 19" spokes to make my black v-twin rim work with my dual flange Harley hub.

As you can see from the photos, spoke length isn't the issue.

I hope someone who laces wheels on a daily basis can look at these photos and confirm that the holes where the the spokes should go (from the inner row of the hub on the star side) are drilled in the opposite direction.

I've compared it carefully to my star hub back wheel...

Guy, did you say that it was a "45" rim in an earlier post? A "45" front rim will not lace to a star hub. It is the holes off set on one side for the "45" brake drum.

Jeff, this is supposed to be the wheel used on the back of 45s and BTs up to '40, according to the part no.

But whatever it is, it won't lace to a Star Hub... I've tried a Dunlop rim as an alternative and that works fine. Maybe it is the 45 front...

I've had this issue. I ended up using a cross 3 pattern on one side, and a cross 4 on the other. I didn't think it was right, and didn't want to kill myself, so I sent it to Buchannen to do it. They Assured me it was fine, trued it, and sent it back.

That looks fine, it should work, should...i laced harpoon's 18 on the back of his pan the same way, same rim and hub.
Even if it was a 45 front rim drilled for a conical brake it would still work, one side would just have a slight bend in the spokes
